DESIGNS FOR ECOHOMES

Jigsaw House

The designers behind the Jigsaw House describe their home as: “the sustainable house that is designed to grow with the family and their needs”.

This solution is the designers’ reaction or counterpoint to the ubiquitous small apartment, a form of living that has been built in significant numbers across the country over the last decade. Communities are built around families and the transient nature of modern living does not allow them to evolve. Modern communities should have the ability to develop around the families that inhabit them, the designers contend.

Jigsaw House offers considerable internal flexibility, allowing residents to easily customise their homes so that they can have double height, first floor living spaces or additional ground floor bedrooms.

The house focuses on a secure courtyard garden that enjoys sunshine for most of the year round, creating a feeling that the outside is as much a part of the living space as the internal spaces. The living rooms are oriented towards the private gardens; however the clear views through the house ensure that there is a connection with the community.
