DESIGNS FOR ECOHOMES

Home ZED

Why it is special
Designed to be built quickly and cheaply, Home Zed uses current timber technology to produce a simple, energy-efficient home to last about 125 years.

How it is built
The house is constructed of glulam – factory-cut, laminated timber frame that can be quickly erected on site.

Eco features
Home Zed includes a wood-fired boiler system, solar heating panels on the roof and photovoltaic panels. While the average UK home of similar size uses 14,000kWh of energy per year, Home Zed uses only 350kWh. Solar energy for water heating and generating electricity, as well as water recycling, will, it is claimed, produce savings of £2,493 a year.
