In partnership with BRE and MBE KTN, The Mail on Sunday British Homes Awards champion innovation and are pivotal in providing a catalyst for change in the way we design and build our new homes.

The winner of the 2007 competition for the Home for the Future, the Gaunt Francis designed Green House, has been built to achieve Code level 6 by Barratt Developments to become the very first stamp duty exempt house from a major house builder and a benchmark prototype for zero carbon housing.

In collaboration with one of Britain’s most innovative house builders, Crest Nicholson, the 2008 design competition challenged architects to look beyond the fabric of the building to deliver sustainable homes and communities to create Tomorrow’s Lifestyle Home. The winning design, from Avanti Architects, will now be built in multiple units to code level 4 for speculative sale.

Ecohomedesign.info has been created to showcase innovative home designs from the UK’s leading residential architects. All schemes presented within this portfolio have been designed to attain level 4 and upwards in the Code for Sustainable Homes and evidence that we have the expertise to deliver sustainable communities and provide us with a vision of tomorrow’s urban landscape.

Recognising how landscaping can contribute to the creation of sustainable communities, The British Homes Awards now extend their sphere of influence and are proud to align with BRE and the Landscape Institute to champion best practice in landscape design.
